Mead & Beer

We sell a range of meads and beers.

Nectar of the gods, mead is the oldest alcoholic beverage known to man. It has been associated with good health and vitality for thousands of years. When combining honey and water, the naturally occurring yeast in honey burst into life and convert the sugars into alcohol. This creates a slightly sweet drink with distinct honey notes.

We are stockists of sparkling meads from the Nothumberland Honey Co. and a select range of still meads from the Lancashire Mead Company.

Honey beer is produced by Dunham Massey Brewery and they have combined Fuggles hops and Bax Bees’ late summer honey to give this golden ale its complex flavour, hoppy on the palate, with a bitter finish tempered by subtle honey notes.

  • Rhubarb Mead

The second flavour to come from the mind of Mrs Mead over at THe Lancashire Mead Company. Born from a conversation about limoncello and other ‘sharp’ fruits. It has pure Rhubarb concentrate added after the fermentation process. This gives it a nice rhubarb flavour with a slightly sharp edge.  Suitable for those who like fruity drinks but still want to taste the mead or prefer their mead not quite so sweet.

  • Krampus’ Spiced Mead

Krampus joins St Nic in his yearly visit. Whilst St Nicholas rewards the good with gifts and treats, Krampus punishes the bad. In some cases, he leaves coal, but the naughtier ones are stuffed into his sack to be carried away to hell. The addition of festive spices to the original Ægir recipe, produces a unique taste identical to that of mince pies! Due to the spices contained within this mead, it is the only light recipe that does not like being served cold. Enjoy at room temperature or warmed in place of a mulled wine. Loves being added to chicken and fish dishes, stir-frys or cakes.

  • Loki’s Spiced Mead

This original recipe uses honey and molasses, with a combination of traditional Yuletide spices added at the end of the fermentation process. This gives it a unique, festive and smoky flavour. It truly is Christmas pudding in a glass! This mead does not like to be served cold! It’s best when served at room temperature or even warmed like a mulled wine. This makes it an excellent cooking companion – great for marinating meat or adding to fruit cakes.

  • Viking’s Blood Mead

This mead is a ‘melomel’ (fruited honey mead), using blossom honey. It is also wild fermented (no yeast is added), but uses the yeast in the fruit. It has fresh hedgerow berries (blueberry, blackcurrant and blackberry) added to the fermentation process.

The addition of berries gives it a smooth and deceptive, almost alcohol-free taste – despite its percentage!
